POSITION SUMMARY

The Lead Corporate PACS Administrator is responsible for managing the operations, system maintenance, and quality control activities of the medical imaging and cardiology Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), as well as supporting related imaging applications such as Powerscribe One, across a multi-hospital healthcare system. This role ensures that imaging workflows, system functionality, and data integrity align with operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and financial performance goals. The Lead Corporate PACS Administrator oversees system upgrades, vendor coordination, and performance monitoring, ensuring seamless integration with radiology and cardiology information systems.

This individual will collaborate with clinical, financial, and IT teams to troubleshoot issues, implement system enhancements, and provide ongoing support for enterprise-wide PACS solutions. Responsibilities include overseeing interoperability with electronic health records (EHR) and radiology information systems (RIS), maintaining system security to comply with HIPAA and healthcare regulations, and optimizing imaging workflows to improve patient care and operational efficiency. Additionally, the Lead Corporate PACS Administrator will develop training programs, user guides, and standard operating procedures to support effective utilization across departments. This role requires direct engagement with multiple facility counterparts to ensure the proper functioning of PACS infrastructure, supporting imaging staff, radiologists, cardiologists, and IT professionals in maintaining a high-performing medical imaging environment.

** This is a fully remote position with minimal travel required for production deployment events and periodic training sessions or meetings. **

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the configuration, maintenance, and optimization of PACS and related medical imaging systems to ensure seamless functionality and performance.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues within radiology and cardiology PACS environments, ensuring uninterrupted imaging operations.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CMS, Joint Commission, and other healthcare regulatory requirements related to PACS data security and integrity.
  • Implement and maintain security measures to protect sensitive patient and financial information, including role-based access controls and audit trails.
  • Collaborate with clinical departments, IT, and biomed teams to improve imaging workflows, support patient flow, and optimize process efficiency.
  • Develop, implement, and refine operating standards, protocols, and administrative policies in alignment with industry regulations and hospital needs.
  • Lead strategic planning efforts for PACS expansion, upgrades, and interoperability with electronic health records (EHR), radiology information systems (RIS), and third-party applications.
  • Act as a liaison between healthcare providers, IT, vendors, and external agencies to ensure timely service delivery, efficient troubleshooting, and system enhancements.
  • Oversee vendor relationships, including contract management, service agreements, and system optimization discussions for medical imaging technologies.
  • Develop training programs and user guides to support radiologists, imaging technicians, and IT staff in maximizing PACS utilization and efficiency.
  • Provide advanced technical support for PACS users, serving as a subject matter expert on system functionality, troubleshooting, and workflow optimization.
  • Manage data integrity, system backups, and disaster recovery planning to minimize operational risks and ensure reliable imaging access.
  • Generate reports and performance metrics on imaging workflows, system utilization, and efficiency improvements for leadership and operational planning.
  • Lead PACS-related projects, including new implementations, system enhancements, and long-term strategic improvements across multi-hospital environments.
  • Assist in budget planning for imaging applications and equipment, providing recommendations for upgrades, system improvements, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure that PACS solutions align with hospital financial objectives, operational goals, and industry best practices.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Informatics, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
  • 4+ years of experience in healthcare PACS/RIS or other imaging and integration support experience.
  • Experience with system integrations and HL7 interfaces.
  • Strong knowledge of both Radiology and Cardiology PACS systems.
  • Experience with Change Healthcare PACS (preferred)

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and propose actionable solutions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for working with multidisciplinary teams and end-users.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead PACS projects, introducing new functionalities and improving overall performance within the department.
  • Proven leadership skills to guide the PACS team and direct actions to ensure success for both the team and the organization as a whole.
