Salary : $36,957.17 Annually Location : St. Augustine, FL Job Type: Regular Full-time Job Number: 2023-02153 Department: Library Services Opening Date: 06/06/2025 Closing Date: 6/26/2025 11:59 PM Eastern FLSA: Non-Exempt Bargaining Unit: NA Pay Grade: 9 Position Description St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a Full Time Library Assistant for the Main Library located in Downtown St. Augustine. SJCPLS encourages a love of literature, the arts, and lifelong learning by providing a variety of information, resources, and entertainment to the community. SJCPLS serves all areas of St. Johns County, including St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fruit Cove, and Hastings. The Library System has six branches, two bookmobiles, and offers books-by-mail service. In addition to books, periodicals, and online databases, SJCPLS offers computer access, notary services, Inter-Library Loan, access to a Seed Library, test proctoring, and many volunteer opportunities. The Library System also offers a dynamic range of programming for adults, teens, and children. Employees work in a team-oriented environment and are responsible for assisting with library circulation, youth, and adult service areas. Examples of Duties The ideal Library Assistant candidate must possess St. Johns County's core values of Dedication, Openness, Adaptability, Visionary, Fiscal Responsibility, Integrity, Humility and must work well in a collaborative team environment. Some of the specific tasks include but are not limited to: Participates in library initiatives, programs and community events as assigned. Assists patrons at the circulation desk; checks materials in and out; registers patrons; process holds requests; collects fines and fees. Shelves circulated and in-house materials; reads shelves to ensure accuracy of material placement and empties book drop. Assists with providing reader's advisory, reference and general information to patrons; assists in providing assistance and instruction regarding the use of databases, catalogs, and computer applications. Schedule to include weekends, evenings and holidays. Library staff work cooperatively between all six branches and bookmobiles to provide needed public services throughout St. Johns County. Staff are subject to work assignments at other library branches, county locations, and outreach events on occasional, semi-permanent, or permanent bases depending on staffing and public need. Minimum Qualifications Candidates for the Library Assistant are encouraged to apply if they meet the following minimum qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent recognized certification Minimum one (1) year of customer service or library experience. College education may be substituted for experience. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position. Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills to serve others. Works a schedule to include weekends, evenings and holidays or also at other branches as assigned. Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language. Must be able to operate a computer. Supplemental Information
